So I may have misestimated when exactly I’d be back to blogging but I couldn’t resist sharing these photos even if it means I’ll be up til the wee hours of the night catching up on work and e-mails. As I mentioned last week, Matt, the dogs and I headed up to Niagara-on-the-Lake to visit my parents. Macy and Keith joined us as well! It was a fun stay filled with lots of delicious meals, movies, board games, spider killing and dog shenanigans. One of the highlights of my trip though, happened to be completely unplanned. While walking around town, my Mom and I picked up a flyer for this year’s Horticultural Society Garden Tour. 25 homeowners opened up their gardens for the public to walk through. Pretty amazing, right?

My Mom has always been really passionate about gardening and I am only just beginning to educate myself, so I feel fortunate to have her as a sounding board. If any of you happen to be savvy gardeners as well, I’d love to hear any advice you have to offer.

What a super idea; I wish they would do something like that in town. I’ve got giant lavender and hydrangeas which were planted in our garden prior to us owning our home but it’s really blossomed over the years. Both those plants have at least quadrupled in size and every year it brings joy to see it grow. I must admit I am not a very knowledgeable gardener or even a green thumb but I made an effort this year to learn more about it. I started with indoor air plants and they were easy enough. I have planted herbs and had a balcony veggie garden for a number of years now and this year I took an urban organic farming workshop, complete with my own veggie patch at a local community garden. It’s been really satisfying to see how the seeds I planted have grown into edible veggies. I also made pretty flower boxes in my front yard this year and they’re doing great.

I think there’s lots to be learned from gardening, starting from a lesson in patience and hard work. It also teaches you to be nurturing and the love that you give to your plants will be rewarded back to you in either beautiful blossoms or edible goodies!

PS I pinned the last photo (Pinterest) b/c I loved it so much but if you would like me to remove it I can do so.

Wonderful photographs and so very inspiring. The softness of them somehow makes them more personal. I think the one with the yellow flowers is my favourite!

You know I love goldfish. Amazing how you caught that goldfish popping it’s head out of the water!

I wish I had the land for a beautiful garden of flowers and an edible garden, too! These photos are truly gorgeous.
